Healthy Living – 10 Things to Do For Healthy Living this Summer
The summer has already started and it is the ideal time to reflect on what you have accomplished so far and create new goals for the rest of the year. It is also a good time to start practising healthy living. You may be out most of the time so here are some quick tips for a healthier season.
- Drink Enough Water
Many of us get dehydrated, and don’t even come to know. When the weather conditions are hot, it is all the more necessary to be hydrated. It is advisable that you need to carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go and importantly keep sipping frequently, also whenever possible, choose water over aerated drinks, caffeine based drinks or fruit juice.
- Exercise More
As a resolution every year most people think for doing some more exercise, but only a few stick to it. This is mainly because we over commit, or start doing intense exercise to begin with. Rather than planning to spend your life at the gym, focus on doing some general exercise, like walking, jogging or playing your favourite sport. This could be more of a fun than commitment. Summer season is a great time to get started with these activities. But make sure that you do it during the early hours of the day or in the evening.
- Eat Organic
You would be surprised to know how our food is really grown these days. All the pesticides and inorganic fertilizers that are used are making our food unhealthier. Switch to organic vegetables and fruits to lead a healthy life.
- Buy More Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Healthy eating starts with fresh fruits and veggies. Packaged versions cannot be matched to the real thing. Packaged fruits and vegetables often are soaked in sweetened juice and syrup, and lose some of their nutrients. Ensure you eat to benefit.
- Prefer homemade food
Healthy living begins from home. It is quite easy to control what you are having. The restaurant made food is usually high in fat, sodium, and additives like MSG to make it tastier. If you are planning for a healthier summer, you will have to cook your own food rather than eating out. Even if you are planning to eat out wisely choose your restaurant that serves fresh and healthy food to avoid any health issues.
- Keep your home clean
Summer is a time that gets a lot of dust along with it, try to keep your house free from dust by cleaning it frequently, especially if you are having kids at home.
- Get More Sun and Fresh Air
Humans were not made to be cooped up inside all the time. Take frequent breaks and go outside. Fill your lungs with some fresh air. If possible take your family to places that are pleasant and is surrounded by nature. Take care to stay indoors during peak summer time or if you have to go outdoors cover your nose and ears and use UV protective sun glasses. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations like going out in the hot afternoon directly from your air-conditioned room or vice versa. Do not switch on your AC / cooler for at least 5 minutes after coming home from hot weather.
- Get Away from the Computer and TV Screens
Too much screen time is not good for you. Never mind the strain on your eyes, you also have to think that the additional time you spend in front of a screen, the less time you will be spending doing something active. Well I am not suggesting that you have to replace TV time with some exercise, but how about trying to follow some of your hobbies like indulging into crafts, gardening, reading or playing with your pet.
- Sleep Well
Don’t stay up too long during summer days. Instead ,considering having a good sleep by keeping the same bedtime and wake-up schedule. If you are having naps during the day stick to a fixed schedule.
- Unwind
While some stress is common, large amounts of stress can be damaging. Not only does it put you off, but it also has serious implication on your health over the time. So get some life this summer and unwind.
