Diwali: It’s time to celebrate! With Care
The festival of lights, Diwali, is perhaps India’s major religious festival when houses, companies and institutions are decorated with diyas and fairy lights on this auspicious new moon day. In India, these days are celebrated with parties that conclude in a splendid evening of fire crackers. People irrespective of their culture indulge into celebrating this festival with full enthusiasm.
Usually, different parts of India have different ways of celebrating Diwali in their own unique way. The houses are cleaned and decorated as it is believed that goddess Laxmi roams the earth during the festival and enters those houses that are pure, clean, and bright bringing with her good fortune. Families draw a colourful rangoli, which is a decorative pattern made at the entrance of their home. Various sweets specific to the respective regions are made like Gujiya, Laddoo, Anarsa, etc. Vibrant colourful firecrackers are lit to add to the joy of this celebration. However, we have to keep in mind certain things while enjoying this festival of lights.
To make your Diwali a true blissful event, here are some do’s and don’ts you should stick to.
Do’s
- Always buy firecrackers from a certified company.
- Keep it away from children’s reach and also from the source of a fire.
- Read the instructions properly before use.
- Ensure crackers are lit in open space.
- Maintain arm’s length distance while you light crackers.
- Wear heavy cotton clothes to ensure maximum safety
- Throw used fireworks in a bucket of water which would keep away people from stepping on used fireworks.
- Keep all the safety measure handy like a bucket of water, fire extinguishers and first aid kit.
- If your clothes catch fire do not panic, drop down on the ground and roll.
- Ensure a safe place for people who can become sick due to the smoke and noise generated.
Don’t
- Do not light crackers in busy places.
- Always an adult should accompany a child while lighting the crackers.
- Do not bend over while lighting crackers.
- Never re-ignite crackers that do not light at the first instance.
- Do not rush straight away toward crackers that have not caught fire, wait for a while and then go.
- Do not hold crackers in your hand and light them.
Indulge into a Smokeless Noiseless, Eco-Friendly and Safe Diwali
Though these celebrations may look fun, their influence on the environment is not that great. Air pollution levels rise enormously to hazardous levels, energy and food wastage increases tremendously, plastic packaging and cracker debris litters the roads and several elderly people and animals suffer from anxiety attacks.
So it is advisable that you have an eco-friendly Diwali. You can opt for environment-friendly crackers that are prepared from recycled paper. The noise formed by these crackers is also within the decibel limits set by the Central Pollution Control Board.
